CDPHE recently finalized the 2026 update to Colorado’s Integrated Solid Waste and Materials Management Plan (ISWMMP) (view the updated plan here), which includes new tools and resources to help local governments better plan for managing debris generated from natural disasters.

To support implementation of the updated plan, CDPHE is hosting two in-person workshops focused specifically on disaster debris planning and management:

Preparing Colorado for Disaster Debris Planning & Management

• September 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 at 4300 Cherry Creek Drive South, Denver, CO 80264
• September 17, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Morgridge Commons at 815 Cooper Ave 2nd floor, Glenwood Springs, CO 81601

These two-hour workshops will provide practical guidance for preparing for and managing debris from wildfires, floods, hailstorms, winter storms, and other disasters. Participants will learn about:

• Key components of a Disaster Debris Management Plan
• FEMA public assistance grant reimbursement and documentation considerations
• Debris collection, management, recycling, and recovery
• Lessons learned from Colorado disaster events
• Effective communication strategies for disaster debris response operations
• New local government planning tools developed through the ISWMMP update
• State resources and next steps for strengthening local preparedness
