Mesa County Hands-On Biochar Workshop

Tuesday, May 12, 2026 8:00 AM - Wednesday, May 13, 2026 4:00 PM (MDT)

Description

Mesa will be hosting a Biochar Workshop on May 12–13, and I’d love for you to join us. Please feel free to share this invitation with anyone who may be interested.

This two-day, full workshop runs from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day and is designed to be both informative and hands-on. Mornings will focus on clear, practical classroom instruction, followed by interactive, real-world application in the field each afternoon.

You’ll learn directly from industry leaders Dr. Ricardo Vázquez-Perales and Sam Bennett, who bring deep expertise in biochar production, soil health, and land management. Whether you’re new to biochar or looking to expand your knowledge, this workshop is built to be engaging, accessible, and immediately useful.

During the workshop, participants will:

  • Learn what biochar is and why it’s such a powerful soil amendment
  • Explore different kiln types and how to choose the right one
  • Gain hands-on experience producing biochar using a ring-of-fire kiln
  • Understand how to harvest and apply biochar for maximum benefit

There is a registration fee to participate, with a limited number of scholarships available. Scholarship recipients will be asked to assist with cleanup activities on May 14.

This is a great opportunity for farmers, gardeners, land managers, students, and anyone interested in improving soil health and sustainability practices.

Spots are limited, so we encourage you to register soon.
